What is the best destination for dive with whale sharks

Scientists of Conservation International have confirmed what Cruising Indonesia knew since 2010 when decided supported Ahe Dive Resort Papua: the whale sharks of Cendrawasih Bay are not seasonal as many of other well-known whale shark aggregations in the world such as Ningaloo, Galapagos and Donsol, the whale sharks of Cendrawasih Bay are present in the bay year round!
And we were not the only ones to knew about it, but also the many Cruisers -Cruising Indonesia’s costumers, guests and friends-, that flock to West Papua attracted by one promise only: You will positively see the whale sharks in your diving travel vacation!

In November 2010, having as a base a very basic Ahe Dive Resort, Gianni Ferroni -passionate dive instructor and tour leader by nature-, conducted the first group of Italian divers in Cendrawasih Bay. Gianni Ferroni and his adventurous “tigrotti -tigers-” from Amici Sub Diving Club, lived an amazing diving explorer expedition, in all the sense of the word, flying in small planes and sailing in small boats to arrive at their final destination in the island of Ahe, and spending the night on a fishermen boat to do not miss the appointment of their lives.

After Gianni Ferroni’s expedition and throughout 2011, many other diving trips were followed by passionate Cruisers to Ahe Island. Maybe the one group that give most visibility to Ahe Resort in Italy was the group of 11 divers conducted by Maurizio Chiovato and Dario Tecchio, a couple of UW video operator and uw photographer, respectively. This was the group of lucky Cruisers which dived with 12 whale sharks all together in one dive!
As diver you can be happy if you log one whale shark, this lucky guys met 12 whale sharks all together in one dive!
What follows is history… An expedition organised by Cruising Indonesia brought to Ahe a group of UW Photo Pros leaded by Luca Coltri, notorious video diver from the Italian TV and Paolo Fossati another well-renowned underwater photographer.
Following the footprints of Luca Coltri and Paolo Fossati, many other UW Photo Pro continue and their Photography have remain as testimony of this spectacle of the nature, "The Whale Sharks of Cendrawasih Bay"…

In Cruising Indonesia, we are happy and celebrates the facts confirmed in the last research of Conservation International about the Cendrawasih whale sharks behaviour, cause it means visitors can pretty much plan a trip any time of the year and have a very good chance of excellent whale shark interactions. These are really great news for marine tourism in the region of Cendrawasih Bay.

    There are few liveaboards that include Cendrawasih Bay in their year round itinerary, with only 1-2-3 chances to trip in Biak, so booking one year before is a must :)
